Stained Glass Goldfinch on Wood

A group of Goldfinches is called a charm, and when you have a flock land in your garden, your attention is drawn by their constant twittering making them very endearing little birds. Their beautiful colouration just asks for them to be reproduced in stained glass.

I have designed a pattern to show their markings as accurately as possible. Both textured and streaky glass is cut by hand, before being ground to give smooth edges on to which copper foil is applied. Finally, I solder all the pieces together to make each Goldfinch. As every stage is carried out by hand, every bird will differ very slightly, giving them their own ‘character’.

The wooden base on which the bird is mounted is hand waxed, and allows it to be displayed in any situation, such as a windowsill, shelf or mantel. The base of the wood has a covering of baize to prevent any marking to surfaces.
