Bewick Swans are often referred to as ‘Angels from the North’, flying here at the start of the British winter to escape the frozen landscape in the northern hemisphere. They are very graceful swans to watch both in the air and on the water, and are most often seen in pairs, as they mate for life. Seeing them at Arundel Wildfowl Trust, I was inspired to create this panel to show their incredible bond.
It is made using three different types of textured glass giving extra depth of colour to the panel. The aptly named blue ‘water glass’ gives a rippled effect to the water. The swans are made from densely swirled white glass and adds a sense of feathering to their head and neck. Their eyes are formed of black glass beads and help to make their faces really stand out.
All stages of this panel are completed by hand, from cutting the glass and grinding the edges smooth. To adding the copper foil and soldering together. A hanging chain is added to the top of this piece, so it is ready to display upon arrival.
The panel looks beautiful when hung in front of a window, or equally on a plain wall to add interest and colour. It can also be adapted to fit into an internal stained glass door or window, please contact me for further details.
