I love hares – they are fascinating, beautiful and mythical animals. No matter what pose they are in they look regal and serene.
This panel shows a large hare gazing towards the moon, such a recognised and popular image that has a place in most peoples hearts.
The background glass is a combination of dark blue and green, that is both streaky and iridised in appearance. The iridised coating gives the surface a stunning rainbow effect in certain lights – like oil on water!
The Hare glass is a very special textured and streaky art glass. It is one of the most challenging glasses to work with, but is worth it for the unusual colour, depth and movement it gives to each animal. This art glass is hand blown, and every sheet I buy is totally different. It is great for bringing out markings, and means that no two hares ever look the same!
I also use real glass eyes in a vivid orange, and anyone who has seen a hare will know, it is their huge orange eyes that draw you to them.
Every piece of glass in this panel is hand cut, copper foiled and soldered together.
The hare is made separately, and soldered onto the background as an overlay. I have done this because I wanted the Hare to be the main focus of attention, and it really helps him to stand out!
The panel is edged in lead came, and there is a strong hanging loop made of picture wire at the top enabling it to be displayed anywhere in your home.
I can also make the panel without a hanging loop so it can be used in a window, or placed in any aperture available.
The background colours can also be customised to your requirements, as can size and shape.
