It was a visit last year to the beautiful Bempton Cliffs, in East Yorkshire I had my first experience of seeing Gannets sawing in the skies, diving at high speed into the sea and pairs gently preening each other, I was inspired to create these stunning Sea birds in glass.
Using a variety of wispy textured glasses to capture the subtle, yet striking markings that make the Gannet so majestic in it’s appearance. Real blue glass eyes are used to give the finished bird a very realistic appearance!
The Gannet is made using the “Tiffany” copper foil stained glass technique. After designing and cutting out the template for the bird, each piece of glass is hand cut , copper foiled and soldered together.
The bird is then mounted on to a hand waxed wooden base which has a baize underside, ready to be displayed anywhere in the home.
My birds look great on a windowsill, bookshelf, mantel . . . . . . . or any flat surface where light can shine through!
