The Bulfinch is sadly seldom seen now in Britain, but its beautiful colouring makes it ideal to represent in stained glass. I have designed the pattern from which to cut the glass myself. All the stages of making a Bulfinch are completed by hand. After the glass has been cut, it has to be ground to make all edges smooth and ready to apply the copper foil. Finally the pieces are arranged and soldered together to make a finished Bulfinch. Because each bird is hand crafted they will vary very slightly, giving the bird is own ‘character’.
The wooden base, on which the bird is mounted is waxed, and allows the bird to be displayed in any situation such as a windowsill, shelf or mantel. The base of the wood has a baize covering to prevent any marking to surfaces.
