The cheeky little Blue Tit has to be one of Britain’s most popular and recognisable garden birds. Its bright colouring is ideal to be portrayed in stained glass. I have used a mix of rippled and streaky glass to give the bird its vibrant markings and add an extra dimension to my work.
Every stage of making a Blue Tit is completed by hand, from cutting the glass and grinding all the edges. To copper foiling each piece of glass and finally soldering the bird together. Because of this each bird will differ very slightly and give them its own unique ‘character’.
The wooden base on which the bird is mounted is hand waxed, and allows it to be displayed in any situation such as a windowsill, shelf or mantel. The base of the wood has a covering of baize to prevent any marking to surfaces.
