Like a jewel in the woodland the Jay stands out with its beautiful apricot colouring, with striking additions of black, white and turquoise. My glass choice for this bird is a mixture of textured and streaky colours to give an extra dimension to the markings.
Each bird is hand crafted by cutting the glass from my pattern. Every edge is then ground to make the surface smooth so copper foil can be applied. Finally, the pieces are then arranged into the pattern and soldered together. Because every stage is carried out by hand, every Jay will differ very slightly, giving them their own ‘character’.
The wooden block, to which the bird is mounted, is hand waxed, and allows it to be displayed in any situation such as a windowsill, shelf, mantel etc. The base has a covering of baize to prevent any marking to surfaces.
