This beautiful Kingfisher is hand crafted using three different textures of glass to give the bird a feathery appearance. I have designed the pattern to hand cut the glass as accurately as possible to its markings, and the glass itself is chosen for its resemblance to the bright and vivid colourings of the Kingfisher, which has to be one of Britain’s most recognisable birds.
After the glass is cut, the edge of each piece is ground to make it smooth and copper foil is applied. The pieces are then assembled and soldered to make the finished bird. Because every stage is completed by hand, every bird will vary very slightly in appearance and have its own ‘character’.
The wooden base to which the bird is mounted is hand waxed, and allows it to be displayed in any situation, such as a windowsill, shelf or mantel etc. The underside of the wood is covered in baize to prevent any marking to surfaces.
