You never forget the first time you see a Barn Owl. They have such a grace and beauty about them, whether perched on a tree stump surveying their surroundings, or silently gliding past you in the sky. Their presence and shape is unmistakeable.
I use a combination of streaky and textured glasses to make my Barn Owls. The tree stump on which the Owl sits gives the impression of heavily grained wood. The streaky white glass used in the face and chest is translucent enough to let light shine through, but is not solid. The head and wing glass is heavily marbled and chosen to reflect the amazing plumage markings this beautiful bird has.
Every sheet of this glass is unique, as it is hand blown and rolled. So every Barn Owl will differ very slightly in its markings. I have used black glass beads for their very dark, soulful eyes!
My design is hand cut, copper foiled and soldered together in the traditional method of Tiffany Stained Glass. But the simplicity of the lines in the pattern give it a very realistic and contemporary feel.
Every Barn Owl is mounted onto a lovely grained and naturally waxed wooden base. The underside of the wood is covered in baise to protect the surface it is placed on.
The wood base allows the Barn Owl to be displayed any where you like in your home – bookcases, shelves, mantels and windowsills to name just a few!
