Hares have an ethereal beauty to them, I will never tire of watching them playing and running around the surrounding fields. They allow you to get quite close so it is easy to observe their beautiful features. Their big bright orangey brown eyes light up in the sun and extra large ears, limbs and whiskers make them instantly recognisable from rabbits.
I have chosen textured and very streaky amber brown glass to represent the markings of the hare, and each one is finished with a deep orange eye. The pattern from which the glass is hand cut is designed by myself. All the pieces of glass are then ground at the edges to make a smooth surface for the copper foil to be applied. All the pieces are then soldered together to make a finished hare. Because all stages of the process are completed by hand and the marbling in the sheets of glass are unique, every hare will differ very slightly, giving each one a unique ‘character’ .
The hares are mounted on to a waxed wooden base, ready for display on a windowsill, mantel or shelf. The underside of the wood has a covering of felt to prevent any marking to surfaces.
