Nothing evokes thoughts of summertime more than seeing Dragonflies flitting around ponds and streams. Their bright and vivid colours are perfect for recreating in stained glass. I have carefully chosen textured and iridised glass for the wings and a variety of glass ‘globs’ to form the body and head, to hand craft these beautiful insects. The glass ‘globs’ are thick and rounded, and they add an extra dimension to the piece. The wings are soldered at a 40 degree angle to the body, and so the Dragonfly has a three dimensional feel.
My dragonflies are a real statement piece to add to your garden. They look great when sited next to a pond, but are equally decorative anywhere in your garden, and they can stay out all year round giving much needed colour in winter.
All pieces of glass are cut out from my pattern by hand. They are then ground to give a smooth edge to which the copper foil can be applied. The body and head are soldered together first, and then the two wings are soldered separately. Finally, the wings are attached to the body and a connecter is added to the base to allow it to fix to the stake.
