This heart shaped mirror uses opaque iridescent glasses and glass beads. The iridised glass gives a pearly finish to the pastel pink border of the mirror and the white butterfly wings. The hand blown glass beads form the bodies of the butterflies and give them a three dimensional appearance. Opaque glass is dense and doesn’t let light through like standard glass. So when hung on a wall, patterned wallpaper will not show through.
All stages of producing this mirror are carried out by hand. I have designed this pattern with a little girls room in mind, hence the pink border and heart shape. All pieces of glass are hand cut and the edges are ground to make them smooth. Copper foil is then applied to each piece and then arranged in the pattern to be soldered together. The butterflies are made separately with their wings at 20 degree angles. They are then soldered on to the mirror border. Every mirror will differ very slightly because they are hand made.
The back of the mirror is covered in baize to prevent scratching to the mirror backing. There are two strong loops with wire that allow the mirror to be hung quickly and easily.
